About U3A
The worldwide organisation of U3A was begun in France to engage adults in continuing scholarship.
U3A Beachside was inaugurated in Mount Maunganui /Papamoa at the beginning of 2022 and aims to supplement the shortage of learning programmes in the community by encouraging mature adults to become involved in education opportunities at two levels.
Interest Groups offer diverse subjects and activities for member’s to research. The small group meetings encourage members to participate in both learning and teaching. Groups include history, poetry, dining, outings for singles, photography, surfing, yoga, biking, hiking, painting, books. The range is as wide as the member’s imagination.
Monthly general meetings provide reports from the groups reporting and suggestions for new groups followed by a break for tea or coffee and an opportunity to socialise. The meeting concludes with a distinguished guest speaker delivering a topic of interest.
While the main purpose of U3A Beachside is education, there are many opportunities to socialize.
